Green minute

Is snow still being made?

How long snowmaking is permitted varies from region to region. At Spitzingsee, snowmaking is actually permitted from mid-November to mid-February.

This also fits in with practice, as snowmaking usually no longer makes sense from this point onwards

Snowmaking on the pistes is only intended in the "real" winter - when the temperatures are below freezing. This is usually no longer the case in March.

Another argument is that the snow can melt again in spring - as nature intended.

The rule is: support natural snow, don't force it.

Incidentally, there is nothing artificial about machine-produced snow: like natural snow, it consists only of water and cold air.
